This one is for all the beatbox heads out there. Back in 2013, Fozzy found out that France’s own incredible Alem, a true champion of the the art of beatboxing, was in the neighbourhood. So they met up. The first video of that was pretty popular. You check it out here if you haven’t already: Alem & Beatbox Fozzy Just Met Pt.1
So we were looking through the vaults the other day and realised we had footage from later on that night just before they were going on stage to perform. They were both backstage playing about and riffing off each other and we managed to catch a little of it on camera. It’s a little rough around the edges but they were enjoying themselves so much it felt a crime not to share it with you.
This year’s been a good one for Fozzy with his re-emergence back onto the international beatboxing circuit at the end of last year with his incredible video alongside one of the world’s finest in France’s Alem. And following his appearance against a heap of the world’s finest at this years ’7 To Smoke’ Battles in Belgium his reputation as one of the UK’s best is firmly back in place.
So feeling good, he’s hit us up with his new ‘Jah Rastafishi Sessions’ featuring him rev up his motor mouth and just jam for the fun of it. Enjoy!
We’re back bumpin’ fists with the god bodies and packing one of the most track heavy hip-hop mixes that we’ve dropped in a while. Taking that extra step to mine the full breadth and depth of the good and the great from wherever we find them – to bring you the latest Bumpcast 14.
Featuring De La, Atmosphere, Monch, Schoolboy Q, Bronson, Fatmina, Jon Wayne, Darkhouse Fam, Lee Scott, Exquire, Nas, Open Mike Eagle, Jaylib, Confuscious MC, Mo Ruf, Mos Def, Metabeats, Mo Kolours, Roots Manuva, Slymoove, Black Thought, I Am Many, Jams F Kennedy, Kendrick, Cru, Marq Spekt & Blockhead and a whole heap more.
Our Bakery brother’s came through with the full skate edit from the Summer Jam event and it’s packed with goodness for all the Skate heads out there from big bad Gaz Leak, Lewis Watkins, Dog, Jimmy Silver, Tom Kirkby, Nile Bridgeman, Welsh Tommy, Billy Trick and whole host of others.
Here’s the new video promo from the first all day Summer Jam we threw back on the 12th of July with our friends from Bakery, City Surf and Spit & Sawdust skate park.
As a rule we tend to stay away from mixing political concerns with music too much. But we were recently invited by our new friends at Bakery to help them throw a fundraiser for a pretty unique kind of charity. www.skatepal.co.uk.
And it a hard one to say no to. Offering kids, living in what is undeniably a war zone, a positive outlet and welcome distraction from the hardships of daily life there. And escape is all what we all need is it not? Those moments of simple fun and pleasure that make life worth living. So we said HELL YES. And the result was a great day from start to finish. So big love to all who came down to have a good time.
We’ve had it on a promise that the actual skate edit from the day shot by the Bakery boys will be out pretty shortly too. So all the skate heads should keep an eye for that one. We’ll probably have it up on here so check back.
You can scroll through on the photos above to checkout some of the shots from the Skate For Palestine: ‘Summer Jam’ we threw last weekend with some good friends.
The day was a winner and really good for the charity Skatepal as we all helped them raise a little bit more than they had originally hoped for. So a huge thanks to everyone who was involved and everyone who came down to support and skate the day away.
It was great day to see everyone come out bubbling. All the artists, DJ’s, skaters, music heads, some personal friends, spectators and some young families all helped keep the place busy from the jump off all the way through to the food running out and getting kicked out. We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as us but if you missed your opportunity or just want to contribute still, you can alway just pop along to http://skatepal.co.uk and do your thing. And always remember… AssociatedMinds is for the Children.
You can see all the full set from the day along with all our other photos on our Flickr site, or on the AssociatedMinds Facebook page.
Answering their call, we’ve gotten together with our new friends over at Bakery Co, and teamed up with legendary skate store and true pillar of the Welsh skateboarding community, CitySurf, to bring you the ‘Skate for Palestine Summer Jam’.
The all day event is aimed at bringing together skateboarders, musicians, DJ’s, street artists and the general public in a day of sport, music, fun and expression to help raise money for the charity, SkatePAL who construct skateparks throughout Palestine.
Starting at 3pm and finishing at 11pm on Saturday 12th of July, the Jam will be kicking off at Cardiff’s own newly opened skate park, Spit & Sawdust. Sponsored by some of the best known and well respected companies in skateboarding, the day is aimed at welcoming all and will consist of skate jams, comps & give aways along with live music & dj sets from some of our good friends and us. The event will also feature the premiere of the Bakery Promo video, as well as live art from local street artists and illustrators. And as if that’s not enough for you there will also be a variety of Palestinian inspired food and drink served from the parks incredibly popular and much loved cafe. And trust us, that’s some GOOD GRUB RIGHT THERE.
SOUND THE HORNS. We’re back at it with another Bumpcast mix of neck exercisers all mixed at the hands of the living legend DJ Jaffa. It’s headnod honey comb. Dripping with sweet goodness from across the US & UK with the likes of Curren$y, Curly Castro, Jay Electronica, Step Brothers, Jonwayne, Sonnyjim, Booda French & J57, D.T.M.D., Homeboy Sandman, Mo Kolours, Denmark Vessey and a whole load more.
This time we’re coming at it with a little more laid back attitude than the usual. So kick back in the sun, break out the BBQ and turn it up.
Original cover photo by our good friend, Rouleur No.1.
Peep this incredible looking ‘Moos Trails’ video by Sam Davies which features the original mix of Metabeats track ‘Hookers’featuring the ever brilliant Action Bronson on the backdrop. Beautifully shot footage combined with some wild riding.
Ahead of the release of his new 7″ Booda French takes his turn to step up to the plate and air out Ed Boogie’s remake of the classic Milkbone ‘Keep It Real’ beat. After making his name as one of the front runners on the battle scene under his former moniker ‘Truth’, he’s gone on to gain a strong following with his signature drawn out slurring, collaborating with the likes of Tanya Morgan’s Von Pea as well as just returning from a tour of UK & Europe.
Now set to release his new 7″ on 250 piece turquoise coloured vinyl. Produced by friend and long term collaborator, J57, of the much heralded Brooklyn crew, Brown Bag All Stars it’ll be distributed by the legendary Fat Beats worldwide.
The new EP from our overseas brother, lead Wrecking Crew member, and future sound griot, Curly Castro has landed. And we’re amped to be able to give you an upfront hearing of it from him. The EP is produced entirely by his Wrecking Crew co-pilot and fellow script writer, Zilla Rocca, so you already know it has a strong pedigree from the get go.
The EP stays nothing but forward sounding but still bumping (‘David Rodigan’ being a personal pick) and features a high grade list of some of those on the cutting edge of hip-hop rhyming right now with the vocal talents of Elucid (Cult Favorite/Armand Hammer), Billy Woods (Backwoodz Studios/Armand Hammer), Castle (Mello Music Group), Hubbs (Git Beats), and the indomitable Wrecking Crew (Zilla Rocca & Has-Lo). “This EP is not lacking for powerful writing.”
Grab your copy below. And whilst you’re at it, we’d suggest you go look up all the Wrecking Crew’s projects. Both their solo music and the group projects. There is gold in them there hills…
After Metabeats & Ed Boogie’s ‘Caviar Crackle Intro’ appeared on the the new M.S.G. Skate Edit from our homie Huw Caddy, it was only right that we finally got a collaboration going with the good people over at City Surf to make ‘The M.S.G. Mix’ special. And the result we’re proud of.
This is for all our tin foil hat wearing, triangle idolising, kick pushing friends who love what this music has to offer right now. Packed with Jay, 50, Tame Impala, Flying Lotus, Pusha T, Trellion & Sniff, Quelle, Bronson, NK, Kanye, Vanilla Pluto, Run the Jewels, Dave Sitek, Jon Wayne, Metabeats, Black Milk and a whole heap MORE.
Our homie, – the in house masterchef/video making/skateboard drifting/international lady lover/mumble master &’collabo’ don – Huw Caddy and his home skillets, Nick Richards & Mike Ridout just put together a brandnew 2 part skate edit. Part 1 to welcome Mike Hellier as the latest new edition to the City Surf team. And then left turn into some fuel for all our triangle fearing, tin foil hat wearers. The arrival of the overdose of M.S.G. into your diet will move you away from that fictitious clean HD smooth steadycam footage you’ve been force fead and lead you into the blurred iPhone footage of freedom!
Following on from last year’s successful showing of the incredible Tribe Called Quest documentary ,’Beats, Rhymes & Life’, Beatbox Fozzy will once again be helping kick off the Darkened Rooms showing of the hotly tipped ‘Gimme The Loot’ in style.
The ever popular Darkened Rooms are an organisation who combine classic and hand picked independent films, with showing them in innovative and themed locations. Tickets are £3.00 and the screening and performances kick off this Tuesday 21st January at 8pm in Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff.
So if you’re a lover of films – and hip-hop – this is one not to miss.
We like to keep good company and we’re blessed to be able to say our extended family holds many talented artists. Now from that circle Vanilla Pluto has landed with his new ‘Pyramid CF63′ beat tape which is full of some truly spaced out dope sandwiches.
The seasons change. Autumn changes to Winter. Winter to Spring. But one thing stays constant through all this. Bumpcasts stay DOPE. Only the finest noggin rocking hand picked gems from across the hip-hop globe make the cut. And this is the latest offering from us to you and it’s dripping with goodness like it should be. Trust us, we’re hip-hop doctors and DJ Jaffa’s sliced up Mayor’s selection like a surgeon. Word to your medical practioners!
Featuring nuggets of gold from Action Bronson, Pusha T, Guilty Simpson & Small Pro, Ghostface, Quelle Chris, Trellion & Sniff, 14 KT, Kendrick Lamar, Metabeats, Blu and more.
These two turned it OUT last night. So good to see Cardiff’s music and skate communities coming together so naturally last night.
Shouts to our family Mr.Huwston Caddilac Johnson for hooking the event up.
Edward Boogie, of this here parish, just stepped up to drop a 300 Second whirlwind tour of some sounds he’s conjured up for the good people over at Radio 1′s ‘Introducing’ show. Tight snippets of unheard power nuggests crossed with personal faves from his label brethren Jid Sames and Metabeats.
Tracklist: Intro Skit Metabeats & Ed Boogie – Caviar Crackle Intro Metabeats & Ed Boogie ft. Elucid – Run Up P.L.O. (Ed Boogie) – FSpace&Lazers Metabeats & Ed Boogie ft. Zeroh – ‘The Median’ Ed Boogie & Metabeats – Vera Wang Instrumental Ed Boogie – Untitled Jid Sames – Loverman (Original Mix) Ed Boogie & Ruffstylz ft. Gift of Gab & Homeboy Sandman – Horserider Metabeats ft. Dubbledge, Marv Won & Elucid – Fire Ed Boogie – Epic
Metabeats ‘Darkhouse Fam’ brother is the badboy foodie and soul selecting, monster beat making, Don Leisure. Well that man there hooked up a journey through the deep deep vaults of Meta’s lesser heard beat heritage.
Asked about the mix he said “Just thought people should hear these beats as I knew Che wouldn’t do nish with them. Ha.” Going on to point out his favourite beat on here is the still dope ‘Gifted’. “(It) Was the 1st beat Che played me when we first hung out and a bunch of the other tracks are stuff that Che has kinda lost.”
Trust us, this mix, covers all the ages of Meta’s music making journeys with some of these rarely heard roughs and rares dating close to ten years old. It also comes fully upto date featuring some of Metabeats newer collaborations with Ed Boogie from his recent incredible ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP, some tracks released under other names and one or two yet to be released heatrocks also.
There’s something incredibly infectious about watching a person who loves their chosen art and craft, practise it in front of you. Well these two are ninjas. Ninjas that love what they do. And the result is that despite having literally just met by a pretty strange twist of fate, Fozzy’s basslines and groove combine with Alem’s incredible patterns and sharpness almost so naturally, that at times it almost looks rehearsed. Watch them at play…
We proudly proudly present the two brand new videos for the OG mix of Metabeats‘Music Pt.1′ featuring the inimitable big man, Ralph Rip Shit.
Michael Aaron over at Subjective Realities has produced an incredible looking piece of film for the beautiful summer version. A video we’re really loving at AMHQ at the moment. It’s also a perfect counter balance to the raw home cut feel of the winter version shot by our own Mayor. That version was shot in freezing temperatures and cutting winds at the top of a snow capped mountain range in the Brecon Beacons’ National Park.
Beatbox Fozzy, met up with the 2013 World Vice Champion, France’s own Alem. If you know anything about beatboxing you’ll know these two are no joke. And as Alem was passing through our home territory it was only right Fozzy and the man got to jam together.
And the good news is We’ll have more coming on this…
Tomorrow the TWO brand new videos for Metabeats ‘Music Pt.1′ will be premiering on the world renowned ‘Nah Right’. The track featuring the big man, Ralph Rip Shit returns with some visuals we’re really proud of and you can choose between the ‘Sun’ or ‘Snow’ videos.
They say patience is a virtue. And never has that been truer. We live in a time where everyone expects to have things instantly. Never has the pressure been greater to fire product out endlessly.
Well we’re trying to buck that trend and spend a little time with our music. And this one was a real challenge. We had to bide our time and wait for the perfect moments, battling blizzards on top of mountains, serious minus temperatures and freezing winds. So you can choose between the raw, Super 8 feel of the Winter cut, or the incredible, warm and creative switch up of the Summer version.
DJ Jaffa & Mayor are back with maybe the finest slab of pure un-cut hip-hop we’ve brought you to date.
Right now in hip-hop there is some magic in the air. Or maybe it’s the chem trails!?! If it’s not that they musta put something in the water supply, coz you can taste it. People are wiggin’ out the right way. That passion for rhyming like a style don is back in people’s plans. Nestled on top of some of these new schools of production. It’s a perfect marriage. Hip-hop is in rude rude health. Filthy in fact. So we sprinkled those main servings with a few classics and surf’s up! Come ride that wave of goodness with us. Grab some headphones and a surfboard and you’re good to go.
And if you like what you hear on here, help spread the word. Go preach the gospel. Shout it from the rooftops. Bump it to your peoples. Indoctrinate the uninformed. Force feed your circle. There is some incredible hip-hop out right now. Everyone needs it in their life.
Metabeats was up at Ed Boogie’s ‘Barnyard’ studio the other day, working on some new ideas together. If you love music there’s really nothing quite like being in a studio in the flesh and seeing (and feeling) a new track come together from scratch.
We’re lucky that we get to see that all the time and maybe even take that blessing for granted sometimes. So we decided to appreciate their talent for what it is, and try give you a glimpse behind closed doors to watch them at play…
The new No(w) Futur mix from DJ SimSima & Mass is exclusively up on the OkayPlayer website now. Just like everyone in their series it features a ridiculously good selection of hip-hop and we’re nut bustingly happy that Metabeats & Ed Boogie are featured up on there with two tracks taken from the ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP.
The track from Metabeats new LP with Ed Boogie on co-production and featuring the incredible Zeroh on vocals has just been selected on the latest of 22Tracks Hip-Hop list for London by Chris P Cuts along side some incredible dope music. We’d suggest checking the whole list out. Big fans of the SertOne remix of ‘Belly Full’ as well as the Alchemist’s’1010 Wins’ track. Whewf. Monsters lay up in that cave. Hear them here.
EXTRA NOTE: For all those loving ‘The Median’ we’ve got more to come from these three too. And with a another don jumping on it.
Metabeats treated the Jen & Ally ‘Introducing’ show on Radio 1 this Sunday evening with an exclusive mix as part of their ’300 Seconds’ series. Featuring a run of heavy hitting snippets from his Darkhouse Fam moves with Don Leisure and an early sneak peak at some new music from Moon Unit (Ralph Rip Shit & Lou Hekla) as well as a couple of choice cuts from his new award nominated album ‘Caviar Crackle’. Check it out below…
Oooooeeee. Continuing with the trend, we have two more videos from our people over at Eyes Down Films featuring music from Metabeats & Ed Boogie. Some incredible looking visuals again and of course some dope music too.
Mudmowth & Metabeats ‘Sledgehammer’ track was just used in the brand new BMX edit from the young and upcoming photographer Sam Davies. The video features James Jones, another rising star who after riding the local parks for a few years, has over the last year or so seen his stock rise rapidly, picking up a couple of sponsors along the way including big ballers Animal. Watch the boy get busy.
We’re back super quick time with another insanely dope hip-hop mix from one of the Bumpcast residents and power lifting monsters, DJ Killer Tom. And along with Mayor’s selections, mined from across the full spectrum of goodness that’s out there it’s guaranteed to satisfy.
We’re going wide roaming… from Jay Z into Qwel into Telemachus & Jehst. And with Joey Bada$$ truly catching the ghost on 95′Til Infinity and the UK’s Strange U taking it to tripped out rawness and even pulls out some vintage P-Casso, Von Pea & Homeboy Sandman. This one is laced with gems for the ultra heads out there.
Let your neighbours know that good hip-hop is meant to be played loud.
We’ve got our homeskillet and presidential candidate The Last Skeptik on deck for the latest instalment in our high grade, handpicked, hip-hop mix series ‘The Bumpcast’. Damn that’s a lot of H’s.
With some goodness from the under and over. Some from your yesterdays. And hopefully some new one for your tomorrows it’s packed with the likes of Pusha T, Roc Marciano, Case Arnold, CJ Fly, De La, Mos Def, Greg Grease, Quelle Chris, Drake and even a few from Skeptik himself.
The Last Skeptik’s LP ‘Thanks For Trying’ is out now on BBE Records. If you like what you hear… COP IT HERE.

We’re fussy who we hang with. Always have been. We don’t beg friends and you won’t find us ‘networking’ for the sake of it. We care about those who are about their craft and have a personality to match it. We hunt out those special folk like prey. And Sonnyjim has both of those in abundance. So it was only right when we were looking to do the latest in our ‘Classics Series’, that we reached out to our extended fam to bring his own style to the plate.
We managed to get our hands on the live audio of the incredible set that the legendary DJ Jaffa played at the Metabeats‘Caviar Crackle Block Party’ this weekend. It was an incredible day of bubbling with friends and family to celebrate the release of Meta’s second LP and all the DJ’s on the day were dropping gem upon gem of good music. This hour long set is one of those ones that truly keeps it moving across an absolute tonne of classics and finely mined new tracks. One of the nicest mixes we’ve heard in a minute. Definitely one for the music heads out there
Increasingly involved in movements to bring about change, Ruffstylz’s efforts have brought him into contact with lots of new people including other artists with similar view points. “I’ve recently been hugely inspired by The Zeitgeist Movement and after I had a conversation with Rou from Enter Shikari I was moved to write it.”
“For a long time it’s been building up in me to write a track that represents my undying passion to get people inspired about the biggest things we can think about and go for in life. I’ve never been prepared to settle for limits and if I’ve got anything to do with it, no one else will either.”
A collaborative project between ourselves and some of the extended family of creatives we’ve been lucky enough to have worked with over the years. (And some new ones.)
After an intial idea between Mayor & Metabeats and themeekshall laying the type and idea out for us, we approached the incredibly talented Spike Dennis. Known for being a ‘boy who sews’ he crafts some beautifully twisted and subverted images of unicorns in stitching. No shit. So we knew he was the man we needed to tackle the gold thread embroidery. Then our friends over at Gallery Sixty Six came through generously on the framing and staining side. The touch that brings the idea on home! Finally our long term friend (and photographer don) Alex Mills took the photo to ensure it was all captured just right.
To help celebrate the release of the Metabeats ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP on June 25th, we figured we’d throw a party. Not a ‘launch party’ as such though. Just a simple party, where friends and fans (and friends of fans) could all come along to live it up and bubble with us. It’s free entry. And on from 3pm ’til late.
So we got a few friends to play and got a sweet looking spot for it out the back of Base, Cardiff for us all to get crunk. It’s open air but still covered so it’s pretty damn perfect. And on top of that, simply because we’re enjoying ourselves, the first 50 TO 70 people to get hold of us will be given/fed/hooked up with, a complimentary, ‘Caviar Cracker’ of the food type. We (b)allin’ this together.
As well as the DJ’s we’ve got our fingers crossed we’ll be joined by the beautiful and talented Vanity Jay for a short P.A. and who knows who else might swing through…
Bring your dancing shoes.
CD Versions of the album will be available on the day for a one off price of the most value for money five pounds you ever did saw.
We’re pleased to announce the forthcoming release of Ruffstylz’s new single, ‘Prison to Paradise’.
As label co-founder and an emcee with a reputation built off his commitment to unadulterated lyricism and constantly evolving flows, the new track amounts to a slight change in tone from his previous work. “For a long time it’s been building up in me to write a track that represents my undying passion to get people inspired about the biggest things we can think about and go for in life. I’ve never been prepared to settle for limits and if I’ve got anything to do with it, no one else will either. I’m here to kill that. I’ve always had strong opinions about society but I’ve never rammed it down peoples’ throats in my music ’cause I think I know the right time and place for when and how to bring a message.”
With the release date of Metabeats ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP fast arriving we figured we’d make it available for pre-order along with an upfront instant DL of 7 of the tracks just to keep you well fed until the drop.
The latest tune to land from the highly anticipated ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP that’s landing June 25th. On this one Meta teamed up with Ed Boogie (formerly P.L.O.) on the production side to help lay the dirty base for Detroit native and emcee of the moment, Quelle, to tell it raw.
The tune debuted on Nah Right earlier this week and is finding a heap of love amongst taste makers like Okay Player, Urb, Potholes In My Blog and a whole load more.
We’re making the track available for FREE DOWNLOAD upto the release of Caviar Crackle on June 25th so grab yours now below.
Have a listen to the latest ‘Bumpcast’ mix from DJ Jaffa & Mayor, featuring Kendrick Lamar, Action Bronson & Alchemist, Karriem Riggins, Wrecking Crew, Quelle Chris, Elucid, Jid Sames, Insane Macbeth & Ruffstylz and a whole lot more…
This is straight up the nicest mix of hip-hop we’ve heard in a while. The Parisian based DJ Simsima & Mr. Mass are NO(w) FUTUR and their mix series features a real fresh selection of some of the latest hip-hop music out. To our ears it’s part of the new movement to return, partly, to what we all fell in love with hip-hop for in the first place. That rawness. But with that sprinkle of new style and edge. And RHYMING. It’s the return of the new boom bap. We feel it.
The new album from Neon Neon (Gruff Rhys & Boom Bip, ‘Praxis Makes Perfect’, had it’s accompanying play open this week and nearly sell out instantly.
A collaboration between the National Theatre Wales and the Lex Records’ signed Neon Neon, the play was created, along with playwright Tim Price and director Wils Wilson, to support the concept album of the same name.
The show will be touring the rest of the country at select spots shortly, but the initial run of shows in a ‘secret location’ in Cardiff have nearly all sold out. So if you want to catch the play and Ruff getting his ‘thespian’ on, you’d better jump on it triple quick.
Fresh out the gate over at the incredible quality filter that is BeatnikOnline our soulfunkmaster, Metabeats, has dropped an exclusive mix for them jam packed with the finest in vinyl treackle your ears will thank you for hearing. You can check it out over on the Beatnik site HERE NOW.
Word ‘em up. It’s a new slab of raw from the big man. Some low slung Ralph laid cooly over a backdrop from the Edinburgh based breaks hunter, 12 Original Players.
12 is an alumni of the school of ‘Louis Den’ beat battles – arguably the finest hot bed of production talent from all over the UK that has had the likes of Beat Butcha, S-Type, Jaisu, Eric Lau, Jehst as well as AssociatedMinds’ own Metabeats & P.L.O. all pass through it’s doors at some point in it’s history.
Catch your free download of ‘Kapish’ by either clicking the image above or BY CLICKING HERE NOW.
A long time in the offing, Ralph Rip Shit links up with 12 Original Players to bring you another slab of cold cut rhyming, served on a bed of crispy drums, finished off with a drizzle of keys. The new track will be landing this week – so keep your eyes and ears peeled. Kapish? … ‘Kapish’.
Mudmowth, currently moving between his new home in Indonesia and Malaysia, just did an interview with DJ Red Viking on Arizona College Radio. This is the email we received from Red apologising and explaining a delay. Even though he truly had nothing to apologise for this is pretty much the wildest reason for anything to be delayed we’ve ever had land in the inbox. Enjoy…
A Metabeats & P.L.O. beat for a Sonnyjim joint we’ve got in the vaults has just been used to backdrop this new one from EyeDownFilms. As many tricks in under 20 mins as these two can do. Twenty is Plenty…
Jammed packed with the finest hand selected hip-hop out, the ‘Bumpcast series continues on with Killer Tom back in the driving seat. Featuring a handful of tunes from the criminally slept on album from The Quakers as well as a few from Gangrene, Guilty Simpson, Dubbledge and Roots Manuva and a whole lot more. Trust us, this one is nice. The artwork continues on the theme laid down by the ‘F*ckSpace&Lazers‘ cover, as we return with the work of photographer and friend Alex Mills, combined with the beautiful badass that is Masubi.
You can listen at Mixcloud.com by clicking here and follow DJ Killer Tom on Twitter here. In the meanwhile turn it up and let it bump out.
The audio from the recent Ralph Rip Shit video for the ‘The Classics Series: Part 1′ has been used by Mysdiggi’s DJ and UK cornerstone, DJ Lok to end his new UK Mix Special. Click the cover image above to cop the free download featuring a whole heap of the scene’s finest.

Summer’s started early and Metabeats is ready to open the floodgates with this one.
Taken from his forthcoming second solo album, ‘Passport’ is a record that shows Meta’s true versatility and talent as a producer. Fuelled by his cosmic boogie gene and featuring vocals from the incredible Vanity Jay, it’s a DJ favourite and already finding favour from the likes of Dazed Magazine, Pete Tong, Ace & Vis and more.
Some behind the scenes shots from the the recent video shoot for Metabeats’ new single, ‘Passport’ ft. Vanity Jay. The single itself will be out on full release on the 11th of Feb and will be accompanied by the Huw Caddy directed video that’s as funky as your grandpa’s socks and features a few choice cameos from the likes of Don Leisure (Darkhouse Fam) and P.L.O., Jessie Allen and a few more. Hold tight for the fun.
After much wait P.L.O.’s‘F*ckSpace&Lazers’ single is finally here.
P is one of the most talented producers we’ve ever met let alone had the pleasure of working with. He’s been a corner stone of the label diligently working away behinds the scenes to fuel numerous other artist’s development via any number of his talents. And for those that know, they’ll tell you, he’s truly talented.
But never one to stay in the box, he’s been working on numerous projects of his own featuring some hip-hop power-houses that cover the entire spectrum of the music and everything else out there too. ‘F*ckSpace&Lazers’ represents his debut solo single. A rich and ever evolving head nod ride, it crescendos into a second movement sounding like Barry White for the new beat generation, meets Bladerunner. We suggest you find a good system, turn it up loud and sink into the blissful ride.
Metabeats has just announced the release of the final single before the release of his ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP.
‘Passport’ which will land on the 11th of February features the incredible vocals of the beautiful and talented Vanity Jay and is likely to catch people off guard.
Talking about the track Meta said, “I didn’t wanna make a throwback jam, but wanted to pay homage to the people before me. Musically it is a tip of the hat to the great Stanley Clarke and also real refreshing for us as it’s a step outside the hip hop/ beat realm. Did i mention the video is bananas? You’re about to get slapped in the face by the superfunk!!’
We headed over to Amsterdam this weekend for Metabeats’ surprise birthday celebrations. Metabeats, Don Leisure, Lou Hekla, Mudmowth, Ralph Rip Sh!t, Mayor, Stroudy from house/garage production group C.R.S.T, Joe Blow and a whole load more family and friends all piled over to join in the celebrations.
Whilst we were all over here Darkhouse Fam (Don Leisure & Metabeats)were invited to do a set on the world famousRed Light Radio and we have the snaps below with more ‘after the jump’.
We are lucky to have four of our artist’s tunes featured in Adam Walton’s ‘Favourite Sounds of 2012′ shows on BBC Radio Wales this year. Adam is a ‘John Peel-esque’ champion of new music from all genres who’s been incredibly supportive of the label since it’s inception so it’s a great honour to make his list this year.
Part 2 of the show airing on the 29th of this month will feature: Ralph Rip Sh!t – ‘Something’ (produced by JeeJaa) P.L.O. – ‘F*ck Space & Lazers’ Metabeats ft. Dubbledge – ‘EyeSeeYou’ (Watch the video here)
The new joint from Brixton’s legendary Insane Macbeth is authentic UK posse track goodness. A veteran fabled for his role producing for the likes of Kinetic Effect and other UK legends like Icepick at the birth of UK hip-hop, Macbeth has stayed on it. His new street single, where the name says it all, ‘Killer’ has him teaming up with a powerful trio of emcees Sub-Zeez, Tony D (Poisonous Poets) and the AssociatedMinds own founding mic maestro, Ruffstylz.

We’re excited about this one. It’s the brandnew artwork to P.L.O.‘s new synth driven power ballad, ‘F*ckSpace&Lazers’. It’s a trip. An evolving concerto for all the lovers and the music lovers out there.
The cover features the ever beautiful form of Masubi and was captured by photographer Alex Mills. After working with Alex since the label’s inception, the cover represents the first of a mini-series of collaborative projects between AssociatedMinds and the pairing.
Artist and long term collaborator and friend of the label, themeekshall, was recently invited to get festive with his pen game and paint up the front window of Milgi, one of Cardiff’s little hidden gems for food, music and culture.
The versatile and in demand illustrator, who’s been the talent behind much of our record cover artwork, was joined on the day by Miss Emma Tickner to assist in bringing Christmas with a Mexican twist.
To see the finished window you should pop along to Milgi over the holiday period to feast and drink in good looking surroundings. But in the meanwhile, you can see more photos from the day below. Read more »
Our friends over at Eyes Down Films have just finished off an incredible series of Mojo Trail Diaries. Filmed in the Atlas mountains of Morocco and featuring the multiple world downhill champion, Fabien Barel, they are all packed with incredible landscapes and well worth watching.
‘Part 2′ of the series (above) features music from P.L.O. around the 1.40 mark of the film, as well as a special ‘Behind The Scenes’ film being entirely soundtracked by Ralph Rip Shit & Lemonface‘s ‘Basketcase’ instrumental.
On top of the great news that the continually inspired ‘Darkened Rooms’ are putting on a select showing of ‘Beats, Rhymes & Life’ as part of the Soundtrack Film Festival, we’re now excited to announce our own Beatbox Fozzy will be doing a quick intro set before the showing of the movie. For just £8.00 that is some pretty decent value for money right there. Come down and catch the incredible documentary next Friday at Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff.
Featuring cover artwork by HopFences and packed with that undeniable hip-hop from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Metabeats & Action Bronson, Nas, Ralph Rip Sh!t, Guilty Simpson, Black Star, EL-P, Homeboy Sandman and a whole load more DJ Jaffaand Mayor have brought a mix full of that goodness to feed the hungry. So come get your fill…
The new Metabeats. ‘Bootney Farnsworth’ is some funk to push the envelope of hip-hop. Just a touch. The track has just been featured on Giles Peterson’s ‘Brownswood Recordings’ compilation ‘electr*c 3′ alongside a whole host of incredible producers that we’d seriously recommend checking out.
As we prepare to introduce the world to the magical rap majesty of Jid Sames (and producer extraordinaire Sash Bash) we thought we’d give you sight of the early stages of the artwork, by the incredibly talented Joe Collins.
‘Loverman’ is the lead single to be taken from his forthcoming album and may come with a tasteful remix or two. Stay tuned for more on that. He’s a barman but he don’t serve beers. And he serves his bars like no other. Jid Sames is coming. And this is a good thing. Shabba!
Mudmowth has been living and travelling all over Indonesia for the past year or so, exploring it’s jungles and remotest islands. Along the way a lot of crazy and funny stuff has happened to him. We caught this snippet of him telling the story about watching a monkey mug a mate in the heart of the jungle. Enjoy…
Our own Mayor and Eatgood Records artist Sonnyjim have been plotting on this one for while now and finally it’s about to kick off.
Bonding over their mutual appreciation for some of the finer things in life, they’re gonna be going on a smoke fuelled tour of some of the country’s finest restaurants. We’re talking upper echelon eateries combined with bongs. One Michelin star and up business only. With a sideserving of Lemon Haze.
The brandnew EP from Ralph Rip Shit & Lemonface has finally landed. The autobiographically titled, ‘Post Crisis: Life after 30′ is twelve tracks of all around hip-hop goodness from the UK / Dutch pairing. It’s already got fans hailing it as one of the top 3 releases of the year.
With artwork by the Dutch based Creative Luxury, the project came about as a collaboration with the good people at Dutch based label, Super Nice Music Group, home to producer Lemonface. The EP contains 7 tracks, 2 skits, an instrumental break from the raps and is covered with a bit of magic dust to give it all that warmth and dustiness real heads love.
P.L.O. has been at work putting the finishing touches to his new track ‘F*ckspace&Lazers’ that will be out shortly. It’s Barry White making love to synths with an unhappy ending. It’s been re-tweaked to perfection and the finished thing is an absolute musical work of art.
Talking of which the cover is a crisp visual too. A collaboration between our own Mayor on art direction, the incredible talents of Alex Mills of Burning Red on the camera with the deathly gorgeous Masubi in perfect freeze frame.
We threw a sneaky candid shot from behind the scenes on the AM Instagram @AssociatedMinds a little while back and we’ll have a few more outtakes from the cover shoot up soon as well. So if you’re not already, you should follow us over there. You won’t want to miss them.
P.L.O. was recently visiting the incredibly talented Richie Hayes, the man who was the creative engine and lead singer of the critically acclaimed, but sadly no more, The Method. During a night discussing music and future projects they started to jam. Luckily we had a camera on us and were able to catch some moments on film. They’re rough and ready, but we think you’ll enjoy.
After the success of their first two joint singles ‘Basketcase’ & ‘Spanish Ass’, released as part of Ralph’s ‘Dutch Masters’ series, Ralph & Lemonface are finally ready to drop their joint EP ‘Post Crisis: Life After 30′.
As so much modern hip-hop lacks a coherent sound, often feeling more like a compilation project, the EP was made under the strict regime of purely the pair’s creativity and only one single guest. Ralph’s lady contributes backing vocals to the EP’s most introspective and personally honest track, ‘Over’.
With artwork provided by Dutch counterparts ‘Creative Luxury’ and co-released in collaboration with Lemonface’s label home ‘Super Nice Music’ the project will be released on SEPTEMBER 14th. So stay tuned.
The brandnew single from Metabeats featuring the already legendary and always classic sounding, Action Bronson, is finally here and spreading like wild fire after The Fader got the exclusive last week. Hookers is hip-hop delivered with vintage dependability but with a touch of modern soul and finish. It’s that new New York solid neck snap, rejigged.
“Metabeats has done it again. A ridiculously talented producer working with one of most exciting emcees about and more than holding his own. A killer of a track.”
Jen Long – BBC Radio 1
With cover design by FWMJ the track is available worldwide on iTunes and all your other favourite digital hot spots.
The artwork by FWMJ for the brandnew ‘Hookers’ track from Metabeats featuring NY’s finest, Action Bronson. The second single to be taken from his forthcoming ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP lands worldwide this coming Monday, 13-8-2012.
To help whet the appetite for his highly anticipated second LP ‘Caviar Crackle’, one of the UK’s leading producers, Metabeats, and New York’s finest, Action Bronson, combine on some international all star tip to bring you a slice of that raw unadulterated hip-hop on the brand new single ‘Hookers’.
‘Hookers’ will be out on worldwide release via iTunes on the 13th August. Get involved and bang it loud.
Here are some shots for Metabeats & Don Leisure (Darkhouse Family) as part of a shoot for Crufts Magazine. Crufts got in touch with them as they are fans of their music and wanted to feature Metabeats’ pedigree Chinese guard dog, a Shar Pei that goes by the name of ‘Lilly’.
After the success of ‘Basketcase’, Ralph Rip Sh!t and Lemonface are back at it again with a little latin groove on ‘Spanish Ass’. With the release of this second collaborative joint between the two comes the announcement of their full joint EP, ‘Post Crisis: Life After 30.’
The full EP will drop within the next few weeks in collaboration with Lemonface’s label home – the Dutch based ‘Super Nice Music’.
As we continue to move forward making hip-hop at AM, we figured it was only right we paid our dues and looked back on the history of this music. So, we hooked up with DJ Saul (54 Mode/Block Party/Radio Cardiff) to proudly serve up THE SCIENCE.
Hip-hop radio how it used to be done.
“The Science Radio is all about re-creating the old school hip hop mix-show radio from way back that I grew up with. The shows with DJs like Red Alert, Mr Magic, Marley Marl, Clark Kent, Pete Rock, Awesome 2, Hank Love & DNA and Stretch & Bobbito, taking it back to the 2 copies live in the mix!!!!” DJ Saul
Ralph has been getting busy of late and alongside the success of ‘Hold That’ with label mate P.L.O. and his various ‘Dutch Masters’ series with Lemonface and JeeJaa, he’s also been working on a slightly alternative group project under the working title of ‘Bones’.
Under the moniker of ‘Sean’, he’s been working alongside ‘Dan’ and producer ‘Rod’ and their latest tune Darts Match features one of our US brethren, Tone Tank from Brooklyn’s Modern Shark label.
Ralph is first up and flips the Broken Language style his way. Dan takes the baton and runs with it and then Tone comes in and closes. Click the pic to listen…
The homie @TheLastSkeptik has just blessed the music arm of Vice Mag with one of his dumb fresh hip-hop mixes. He drops a little taster for the forthcoming Metabeats & Action Bronson track ‘Hookers’ mid session. Enjoy…
Mayor will be at the Pentalk Labs Q&A session on the 21st July, alongside legends like Jurassic 5′s Akil and Mark B of Mark B & Blade fame. The session will be aimed at helping new or young artists learn how to start off in music and some of the issues they might face. If you fit the bill, pass through and collect some tips and truths for your musical future. We’ll see you there.
We’re proud to present you the kind of material that satisfies us as a record label and as fans. Sounding like he’s busting out his best bars obscured in a cloud of smoke, unique and original emcee Ralph Rip Shit features on P.L.O.’s serious banger and new single Hold That, taking you deeper into P’s sonic landscapes. Is this Ralph’s finest moment? Sounds like he caught the holy ghost and married some certified horror film hip-hop.
A new still from the forthcoming P.L.O. & Ralph Rip Sh!t single and video for ‘Hold That’ OUT THIS MONDAY.
We’ve been waiting to hit you with this for a while. As we move more into the zone of letting what we do speak for itself, getting the maximum impact out of just a few elements, here’s some skullcracking dark imagery – musically, visually and lyrically. How do you do raw, this is how you do raw:
A lil’ while back on a classic UK weather day (sunny but somehow still raining!?!), Metabeats hooked up with Oddisee for a feature on his forthcoming ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP. As part of that hookup we caught a quick freestyle from Oddisee over a Meta beat he had handy. We’ve always felt, due to his talent and recognition as a producer, Oddisee’s skills as an emcee are overlooked, but he proves his way with words on this one…
The ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP will feature a hand picked list of some of the world’s finest emcees and musicians such as Action Bronson, P.L.O., Oddisee, Ralph Rip Shit, Von Pea (Tanya Morgan), Elucid, Dubbledge, Marvwon, Quelle, Che Grand, Zeroh (BLQBRD), Chuuwee, Vanity Jay and more…
If you missed the incredible first single & video for EyeSeeYou featuring Dubbledge check it out HERE.
Back when underground hip-hop in this country used to drop authentic on vinyl pressings we first heard of an emcee spinning wigs out with his 12″ on Main Rock Records alongside Skeptic and producer Mr.Dark.
His track 40 Bricks was a true certified classic of it’s time. Jid painted a picture on this one. We all became a fans of his and his main producer Sash Bash. Well it’s years on and we went back to find him to help complete our label of artists who all one of a kinds. Our attempt at our Avengers super team. For more of the story click below… Read more »
The latest ‘Something’ from our own steadily internationally rising Ralph Rip Sh!t comes soundtracked by another Dutch producer. This time he’s joined by the Arnhem based JeeJaa.
We could do more talking about how it’s got that classic feel every one craves from their hip-hop and also on about how Ralph rides it with that effortless style, originality and charisma he always exudes, but why read this 2D type when you can just press play and let your ears do the talking to you…
We’re proud to announce the recent Metabeats & Dubbledge track EyeSeeYou was awarded the hip-hop Single of the Month in the latest copy of DJ Magazine.
After widespread praise for the track from legends like Goldie and Blak Twang to chart success on leading websites like Jump Off & SBTV this is another feather in the cap for Metabeats who’s in the studio with P.L.O. putting the finishing touches to his sophomore ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP.

Beatbox Fozzy is steadily working on a collaboration project involving samples of his vocal mouth magic taken and reproduced by a select list of producers. Following on from his work alongside Metabeats on the title track from The Highball EP, this is ‘Joe Jackson’.
Working with Birmingham native, the talented Dockmini, the track has that smoothed out hypnotic groove but then the rhyming beast that is Sonnyjim takes it by the neck and goes at it with a rapid fire bombardment flow.
This is the new ‘Microphone Mathematics’ mix we’ve done in collaboration with the international, cloud stepping DJ Moyma. The mix featuring a whole heap of the hardcore hip-hop goodies we know you crave. From new music from The Roots, eXquire, and arguably one of the finest songs about love in hip-hop history, Jean Grae’s ‘U & Me & Everyone We Know’ to classic tracks from De La Soul, Black Moon, Rakim and a tonne more of that boom bap. Moyma’s gone in deep on this one and reached for some classic goodies.
The cover to the soon to be out P.L.O. produced hip-hop instrumental ‘Sebangau’ named after the village that inspired it.
Mudmowth has been living in Indonesia and Borneo for the last year or so and is working on a forthcoming EP to stamp mark it. He sent back a sample pack of Indonesian folk music for a few select producers to get busy with.
P.L.O. is just putting the finishing touches to his offering for the EP.
The enchanting Sebangau has a raw energy and soul in both the place and the finished beat and we’re looking forward to putting the instrumental out there as well as looking forward to hearing what Mud does on it.

A co-release between ourselves and the Skreemer Records imprint, the LP is a trip into the mind of one of the country’s more complex rhyming craftsmen. Trix’s smoked out vocal and dense rhyming style have helped see his previous releases all garner serious critical acclaim. And this latest LP is already following that same path. Read more »

Produced by Hekla Kosh this one started to come together way back in 2007 and finished off as a fully fledged international affair featuring Philadelphia’s own Zilla Rocca.
We were recently asked to do my current top 10 hip-hop tunes for DJ Magazine here in the UK. When I started trying to put it together it made me realise there is a hell of lot of good music being made all over planet Earth right now. But, quietly, with no real fanfare, New York has been going through a real creative sweet patch in the last few years, generating all different types of hip-hop well worth your attention.
So whilst it was hard to whittle it down we tried coz we good like that, then we reached out to DJ Ivan6 of ‘Holdin Court’ crew to put a quick mix together. There’s been amazing music from long time recognised legends of the art like Mos Def, Ski Beatz, Roc Marciano or the under praised gravel voice monster that is Rock from Heltah Skeltah. Or the left field honesty and creativity of Cool Calm Pete, Das Racist, Junk Science’s Nuclear Family label or Nasa’s Uncommon Records label. And that’s still leaving out the new generation style dons like Homeboy Sandman, Fresh Daily, YC the Cynic, Action Bronson and A.M. fave, the beast Elucid. This is by no way a definitive list. There’s loads more we couldn’t squeeze on. This is really just the tip of the iceberg.
After thought: Looking at the list I guess the one thing all these artists have got in common is a real right to call themselves ‘emcees’. All of them are rooted and focussed on coming strong with the rhymes. No clone business. Just style, flow and originality every time. These were the things that drew us into loving hip-hop in the first place so many years ago. It’s good to know it’s still going strong.
After much waiting THE HIGHBALL EP is finally here and we’re happy to say it’s been really warmly received not just here in the UK but also in the likes of Germany, Australia and the U.S. with bloggers and DJ’s showing love.
A creative experiment between two of the UK’s most established hip-hop labels, ourselves and Eatgood Records, the EP was created over the space of one single hazy night and day in a darkened Birmingham studio. The resulting nine track EP features the coming together of various musical and rhyming styles into a batch of heaters for the fans.
“Last month, the AssociatedMinds and Eatgood Records camps leaked “The Heat”, a track from their collaborative EP, The Highball. On it, P.L.O. laid down a razor-sharp guitar-driven instrumental masterpiece for Sonnyjim & Mudmowth to speak some of those dirty, distinguished English bars to, reppin’ the UK Hip-Hop scene properly. The geniuses over at Associated Minds figured the world needed a special US version of this banger of a track, and enlisted the Philly triumvirate of Zilla Rocca, Curly Castro and Has-Lo to sink their collective teeth into that beast. To put a true Hip-Hop spin on it, the decision to revisit Smoothe Da Hustler & Trigga Da Gambler’s classic “Broken Language” opened up a sly framework for these three to slice and dice this beat to pieces.. You’ve got Kanye shruggin’, pill pushin’, spoon bendin’, rhyme twistin’ and all other types of intricate actions broken down in that style. Thus, the “American Language” remix you have before you!
As mentioned, Associated Minds & Eatgood Records will be unleashing The Highball EP. Zilla Rocca is pushing the magnificent Bad Weather EP, while Curly Castro is wondering why one would continuously hit the snooze button on Winston’s Appeal and Has-Lo is receiving loads of praise for his Mello Music Group-distributed In Case I Don’t Make It album. Support quality Hip-Hop, or we’ll have to turn into the hate-spewin’, cigar-chewin’, ratchet holdin’, knife-wieldin’ henchmen, and force you to partake. We don’t want to go down that route, though, do we?”
The brand new video for the P.L.O. produced The Heat featuring Sonnyjim.
Directed and produced by Mayor & Huw Caddy, a free download of the full track featuring Mudmowth is available over at ‘The Highball’ bandcamp site HERE
The Heat is the P.L.O. produced banger featuring the reunited rhyming might of Sonnyjim & Mudmowth. Sonny and Mud get down with strength on a dirty drum and guitar sound that returns the hip-hop to hip-hop in up-to-date style, mixing the know how of both labels into a necessary dose of dope to the veins.
The track is the lead tune to be taken from the forthcoming joint EP between AssociatedMinds & Eatgood Records, ‘The Highball’ , named in dedication to the one hazy night in Birmingham it was recorded over. It’s the combination of the whole rosters of both teams clashing styles together into some rugged bangers for the heads.
The brandnew studio LP from Mudmowth & Metabeats is out. After numerous successful solo projects these two masters of their chosen crafts have come together to release this powerhouse of wide ranging hip-hop quality. So far it’s being garnering critical acclaim from all over and radio play from Australia to Germany and back again.

HIP-HOP TRACK OF THE WEEK
‘A varied but ultimately satisfying offering, “Sledgehammer Kisses” is the work of two individuals not afraid of stepping outside their respective comfort zones in order to create music that is both immensely enjoyable and, at times, deeply moving.’
RYAN PROCTOR – OldtotheNew.wordpress.com
“Picking out highlights here is really just down to personal taste, due to the consistent quality.”
“Mudmowth is ahead of the game… the battle raps have sick little twists/concepts on ‘em, and he’s one of the best when coming with that real life poetry, painting pictures in your mind style.”
If you’ve not checked the recent ‘Ugly Fruits 2′ beat tape from our extended fam and Squid Ninja henchman Hekla Kosh then we suggest you do. It’s been out doing the rounds for a bit and we been bumping it on the regular at the studio.
