Here’s the new video promo from the first all day Summer Jam we threw back on the 12th of July with our friends from Bakery, City Surf and Spit & Sawdust skate park.

As a rule we tend to stay away from mixing political concerns with music too much. But we were recently invited by our new friends at Bakery to help them throw a fundraiser for a pretty unique kind of charity.

And it a hard one to say no to. Offering kids, living in what is undeniably a war zone, a positive outlet and welcome distraction from the hardships of daily life there. And escape is all what we all need is it not? Those moments of simple fun and pleasure that make life worth living. So we said HELL YES. And the result was a great day from start to finish. So big love to all who came down to have a good time.

We’ve had it on a promise that the actual skate edit from the day shot by the Bakery boys will be out pretty shortly too. So all the skate heads should keep an eye for that one. We’ll probably have it up on here so check back.

You can scroll through on the photos above to checkout some of the shots from the Skate For Palestine: ‘Summer Jam’ we threw last weekend with some good friends.

The day was a winner and really good for the charity Skatepal as we all helped them raise a little bit more than they had originally hoped for. So a huge thanks to everyone who was involved and everyone who came down to support and skate the day away.

Summer Jam

It was great day to see everyone come out bubbling. All the artists, DJ’s, skaters, music heads, some personal friends, spectators and some young families all helped keep the place busy from the jump off all the way through to the food running out and getting kicked out. We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as us but if you missed your opportunity or just want to contribute still, you can alway just pop along to and do your thing. And always remember… AssociatedMinds is for the Children. :)

You can see all the full set from the day along with all our other photos on our Flickr site, or on the AssociatedMinds Facebook page.

Answering their call, we’ve gotten together with our new friends over at Bakery Co, and teamed up with legendary skate store and true pillar of the Welsh skateboarding community, CitySurf, to bring you the ‘Skate for Palestine Summer Jam’

The all day event is aimed at bringing together skateboarders, musicians, DJ’s, street artists and the general public in a day of sport, music, fun and expression to help raise money for the charity, SkatePAL who construct skateparks throughout Palestine.

Starting at 3pm and finishing at 11pm on Saturday 12th of July, the Jam will be kicking off at Cardiff’s own newly opened skate park, Spit & Sawdust. Sponsored by some of the best known and well respected companies in skateboarding, the day is aimed at welcoming all and will consist of skate jams, comps & give aways along with live music & dj sets from some of our good friends and us. The event will also feature the premiere of the Bakery Promo video, as well as live art from local street artists and illustrators. And as if that’s not enough for you there will also be a variety of Palestinian inspired food and drink served from the parks incredibly popular and much loved cafe. And trust us, that’s some GOOD GRUB RIGHT THERE.

We managed to get our hands on the live audio of the incredible set that the legendary DJ Jaffa played at the Metabeats ‘Caviar Crackle Block Party’ this weekend. It was an incredible day of bubbling with friends and family to celebrate the release of Meta’s second LP and all the DJ’s on the day were dropping gem upon gem of good music. This hour long set is one of those ones that truly keeps it moving across an absolute tonne of classics and finely mined new tracks. One of the nicest mixes we’ve heard in a minute. Definitely one for the music heads out there

You can cop the acclaimed LP from Metabeats over on iTunes

A collaborative project between ourselves and some of the extended family of creatives we’ve been lucky enough to have worked with over the years. (And some new ones.)

After an intial idea between Mayor & Metabeats and themeekshall laying the type and idea out for us, we approached the incredibly talented Spike Dennis. Known for being a ‘boy who sews’ he crafts some beautifully twisted and subverted images of unicorns in stitching. No shit. So we knew he was the man we needed to tackle the gold thread embroidery. Then our friends over at Gallery Sixty Six came through generously on the framing and staining side. The touch that brings the idea on home! Finally our long term friend (and photographer don) Alex Mills took the photo to ensure it was all captured just right.

And this quick little vid was shot by our boy Huw ‘Cadillac Johnson’ Caddy.

Album is available on iTunes worldwide now.

We're having a party. You're invited.

To help celebrate the release of the Metabeats ‘Caviar Crackle’ LP on June 25th, we figured we’d throw a party. Not a ‘launch party’ as such though. Just a simple party, where friends and fans (and friends of fans) could all come along to live it up and bubble with us. It’s free entry. And on from 3pm ’til late.

So we got a few friends to play and got a sweet looking spot for it out the back of Base, Cardiff for us all to get crunk. It’s open air but still covered so it’s pretty damn perfect. And on top of that, simply because we’re enjoying ourselves, the first 50 TO 70 people to get hold of us will be given/fed/hooked up with, a complimentary, ‘Caviar Cracker’ of the food type. We (b)allin’ this together.

As well as the DJ’s we’ve got our fingers crossed we’ll be joined by the beautiful and talented Vanity Jay for a short P.A. and who knows who else might swing through…

Bring your dancing shoes.

CD Versions of the album will be available on the day for a one off price of the most value for money five pounds you ever did saw.

Ruffstylz in the Neon Neon play ‘Praxis Makes Perfect’

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

The new album from Neon Neon (Gruff Rhys & Boom Bip, ‘Praxis Makes Perfect’, had it’s accompanying play open this week and nearly sell out instantly.

A collaboration between the National Theatre Wales and the Lex Records’ signed Neon Neon, the play was created, along with playwright Tim Price and director Wils Wilson, to support the concept album of the same name.

The show will be touring the rest of the country at select spots shortly, but the initial run of shows in a ‘secret location’ in Cardiff have nearly all sold out. So if you want to catch the play and Ruff getting his ‘thespian’ on, you’d better jump on it triple quick.

Beats, Rhymes & Life SQ Flyer

On top of the great news that the continually inspired ‘Darkened Rooms’ are putting on a select showing of ‘Beats, Rhymes & Life’ as part of the Soundtrack Film Festival, we’re now excited to announce our own Beatbox Fozzy will be doing a quick intro set before the showing of the movie. For just £8.00 that is some pretty decent value for money right there. Come down and catch the incredible documentary next Friday at Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff.

Tickets are available here: Beats, Rhymes & Life

As we continue to move forward making hip-hop at AM, we figured it was only right we paid our dues and looked back on the history of this music. So, we hooked up with DJ Saul (54 Mode/Block Party/Radio Cardiff) to proudly serve up THE SCIENCE.

Hip-hop radio how it used to be done.

“The Science Radio is all about re-creating the old school hip hop mix-show radio from way back that I grew up with. The shows with DJs like Red Alert, Mr Magic, Marley Marl, Clark Kent, Pete Rock, Awesome 2, Hank Love & DNA and Stretch & Bobbito, taking it back to the 2 copies live in the mix!!!!” DJ Saul

We’re proud to present you the kind of material that satisfies us as a record label and as fans. Sounding like he’s busting out his best bars obscured in a cloud of smoke, unique and original emcee Ralph Rip Shit features on P.L.O.’s serious banger and new single Hold That, taking you deeper into P’s sonic landscapes. Is this Ralph’s finest moment? Sounds like he caught the holy ghost and married some certified horror film hip-hop.

You can cop the track from iTunes HERE NOW.

We were recently invited by Huw Stephen’s of Radio 1 to get involved with his SWN Festival and co-host a night with Cardiff’s own D&B big bwoys Aperture. With a tasty lineup it was hard to say no.

Metabeats (Exclusive DJ Set)
Y Diwygiad
Beatbox Fozzy & Ruffstylz
Dan Marshall
Ransom & Magenta
High Contrast

We know we sound like a broken record on this one but once again Ruff and Fozzy proved they really have a world class stage show and tore the stage down hard. On the night Chipmunk got replaced by Baby J and friends and they proved to be good for it. Shouts to anyone who reached down for the night or any of the Swn events. Here’s to 2009.

Ruff, Rhys Ifans & Fozzy backstage

We had a call from Kris Jenkins a week or so back asking if Fozzy and Ruff would come through and support his new band ‘The Peth’. Featuring Kris, a Super Furry Animal and hollywood big boy, Rhys Ifans, and a whole bunch of others it was kinda hard to say no. They are on some Welsh super group business. The gig was pretty bonkers and we smashed it. So here’s to more partying with ‘em in the future.

Dizzee and Fozzy

After smashing the hell out of the Vauxhall tribes competition and claiming rites as the UK champion for 2007 our boy Fozzy headed out to perform with Dizzee Rascal as part of his UK tour at his show in Liverpool.

After smashing that he was invited to join him again at his homecoming final show back at the London Astoria. That turned out to be a hell of show with the finale being that after Fozzy helped end Dizzee’s show with a 10 min routine that built up into Fix Up Look Sharp – they presented Dizzee with his gold plaque for Maths & English. It was a sick night. Much love to everyone involved.

2 parts of one amazing live show

We hit the Beyond the Border festival last week for some international style vocal stylings. Ending up with Ruff and Fozzy taking to the stage with Taqralik Patridge, one of the few Inuit throat singers who gets out to an international stage. A spoken word artists as well, she’d just arrived direct from Canada and was off to Norway for more goodness the next night.

Then Saturday night rolled in and we hit Cambridge for a D&B rave alongside Mampi Swift, Mickey Finn, Skibadee & Zinc, The night was heavy and Fozz and Ruff brought more fire to the stage before the Scratch Perverts brought it down with a heavy headline set.

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

If you’ve never seen street art battles you need to reach this. 6 skilled folk. One white wall. A bunch of black markers. Some music. Some drink. Our own Mayor hosting. Guaranteed result is a heavy night out.

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

After the major success of the January Tour you know we had to go back to the see the good people of the Emerald Isle and the luckily our favourite promoters wanted it to happen too. So we went back with Ruff and Fozzy as the headliners to try kill it again. Ralph & Mud did a little ten minute P.A. to set the shows off in the proper style and fashion and then Ruff and Fozzy straight muredered in a way like no others can match.

Their show is ridiculous and we say that with no bias. It’s next level original. And if you ain’t caught it you need to. Just can’t wait to go back now and hit up Dublin and see more of the beautiful country. Shouts to all the people who reached out and showed us love. And to all the Cork schoolgirls!?!

Ruff and Fozzy did an instore in Plug’d Records in Cork City. The theme was red.

^^^John Gough aka Gougho the Cranker aka Dope-As-Shit-Brekkie-Chef on the wheels of steel.

^^^ Ladies and gentlemen… introducing… New Ralph Ralph Shit.

^^^Mudmowth bowling around on stage.

^^^ Ralph rocking it.

^^^Mud taking well deserved ‘boy in the stush corner’ chill time after the gig.

Promoter Doobs showing us the colour of his Irish money. That was soon to become ours. But due to Ralph doing some seriously dodgy parking of the A.M. tour van in the centre of Cork it had been towed earlier the same day and so that money was soon to become Cork City Councils to bunk it back out the pound! Heck money comes and money goes. You got to keep your grizzly going.

After heading up to for a gig @ the Galeri,? Caernarfon and? Fozzy taking out the speakers with his bass, we went and headed back to Mr. Phormula’s yard. This shot is from the next morning outside Phorm’s studio. This shit is literally in the middle of the sticks. Our North Walean brethren showed us a sick night on the vodka, ghost stories and a dope late night jam. Can’t wait to go back. Much love to Dull, and Nine Tonne as well. We need to link soon for sure.

We keep getting reminded that we haven’t been keeping people uptodate on our shit. Sorry people but life is busy as a busy beaver at A.M.H.Q. so things get missed. Once we get 5 this will all be covered properly When we get a minute the site is gonna get a revamp so hold tight for that but in the meantime… these are the headlines – We’ve just completed the successful ‘People, Poetry & Pussy’ Mini Tour of Ireland. (shouts to the legendary 2 Johns for that one – we can’t wait to come back!!!)

Willo Wispa & Ralph Rip Shit featured on the Feb Cover CD for HHC as the best up and comers in the country. Ralph also had a funny interview up in there so peep it whilst you can.

Paul B‘s brand new mixtape is here… SNEAKERFREAXXX – it’s dope. Run to the store to grab it.

Filming for Mudmowth this month for a half of a show on HTV dedicated to the beast that is Mud. Talking of Mud his press shots for his forthcoming 12″ and album are complete – prepare for the horror…

Beatbox Fozzy is going from strength to strength and has just finished putting together a radio advert for FAST CAR MAGAZINE. Fozzy is also due to perform at the International Beatbox Convention @ the Southbank Centre in London on March 20th – reach that if you can…

Ruffstylz, Mud and Ralph are also featured on the soon to come ‘Metaphysical’ CD from Metabeats that we are gonna help get out and about. What we’ve heard so far is flames. It features some of the heavyweights in the scene right now. Keep your eyes on the store for more updates on that one…

Fozzy and Ruffstylz just performed at Speaker Corner in Brixton and brought them the next level in how a beatboxer and emcee really can mix and blend to push things forward and display skills whilst bring it HARD.

Barnie Rumble headed off to Oz to let them know where it’s at. At the same time P.L.O. arrived back from the states – equipped with some serious equipment and intent to make his name as the best mix engineer in the U.K. Be warned…

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Look we’re busy busy right now concentrating on the music and that’s why it’s taken us about 5 months to get these few pics from the January gigs to get up on here. We’ll say it loud, we’re slack and we’re proud.

Up close and personal with one of Britains best spitters.

The Legendary 2 Johns of Kerrynini fame. Rocking the roof off in Tralee.

Paul B racking up two fine cuppas in the best hotel we’ve been graced with to date while on tour. The George Boutique Hotel, Limerick get’s love.

Bizzle dropping the heavy… SHIT!

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

Whilst we were walking through Bristol we just walked around a corner and bumped into Pharoahe, relaxing before he and his band tore the stage down. Dude was real impressed with Ralph’s new earings so they had a pic done together.

Fuck them artists you see at gigs now who are tooo cool to still be a fan. That shit is just gay. We got nothing but love for Monch and showed it in the mosh pit even to the cost of Mud’s shirt which he never saw again and Mayor’s previously pristine Air Max 1′s. The gig was rowdy and classic. FACT.

Ruff & Fozzy running...

The run of shows continues and damn we’re murderring it tooooo hard. Ruffstylz & Beatbox Fozzy now have a show that needs to be seen to be believed. It’s next level. I’m not just saying it – it’s truly like nothing else out there…?

Like wise Fozzy, Paul B, Ralph and Mudmowth are bringing more rowdy party style to stages relentlessly. Last night it was the turn of Sonic Relief in Cardiff to witness them bring it. Serious shouts to the crowd and the promoters for helping make it a good one.

Next gig is Cargo in London on the 20th of this month so make sure you make it out if you’re round those ways – ridculous live hip-hop don’t come around that often.
